  1. PSALM 32

Sin has an affect on your whole body, physically and mentally - guilt. It wants you to remain quiet about it.

When you acknowledge and quit covering up and confess, it is healing to your body. God forgives and mentions it no more. He never says "well, you did it again," or "I forgave you once, I'm not going to do it again," or "I told you so". Just "you're forgiven". Healing.

Their is protection and deliverance when you come clean. There is wise counsel available to you from God.

I think I love v. 10 the most - the Lord's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts Him so
    v. 11 right now, rejoice, be glad, sing!!!! You're forgiven and free!

    1. It is very refreshing to be in Psalms again!! I love verse 1. Our sin is covered and the lord counts no iniquity. Awesome! And of course I love the horse verse on #9. With most horses, if you don't have a halter or bridle they wont stay near you. But if they totally trust you (even love you) they want to stay close to you. When we broke colts we trained them to rein by leg pressure and body movements to the point that we could ride them without a bridle or anything. You have to be totally in tuned with the horse and it with you. A perfect picture of how we should be with God. He should be able to shift in a direction and we should automatically go, no questions asked. But if we balk, God gently urges us on. You can always tell when a horse was ridden by someone with a "heavy hand" on the bridle or that was whipped a lot because they were flighty and hard to control and questioned your moves. Wow, the more I think about it, the more parallels I see!!

    2. Oh my goodness! I never knew that about training horses, since I haven't been around horses. I love the point that when God shifts direction, we should automatically adjust and go. The person that had the brusk father figure will have trouble obeying God because they are use to being "whipped" or "the heavy hand". We shouldn't have to be bridled the older and more mature we get in the Lord. Really love that illustration.

    3. My grandpa was the "whip and spur" kind of rider and his horses were all over the place. And he never understood how my colts were always calm and quiet. It took a lot longer to "retrain" his colts than it did to do it right from the beginning.

  2. PSALM 33

v.1-3 I wonder if these churches had as big as issue over music as we all do today!

    v. 5 When it seems like the world is full of evil, its encouraging to see "the earth is full of his unfailing love". You see it in other believers, everyday. Don't be deceived, there is a big remnant of believers on his planet. The enemy wants us to believe we are a minority and we are not powerful, but God's Word and His love are the most powerful things on the planet. Love never fails.

    v. 10 I just thought no many how many plans and purposes God has thwarted (love that word) of nations that we know nothing about.

    v. 12 Even in my lifetime we could say "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" but I have seen that deteriorate drastically.

    v. 13 "From heaven he looks down and sees all mankind". We still have a remnant whose hearts are turned towards the Lord, who love Him and honor Him. We are still under his protection. He keeps us alive. He gives us hope. He is our hope, not the government.

    TAKE AWAY:
We can rejoice because of His perfect sovereignty and unfailing love. It won't fail!
    His word is still powerful.
    His is still in control.
He sees us believers down here on planet earth.
    We live in hope.
    We trust Him alone.

    1. The thing that stood out to me on this chapter was how we shouldn't have false hope of things in this world. Like a great army, our own strengths, or a war horse. We should look to the Lord and his steadfast love, for he is our strength and shield.

    2. I think people now are looking to the government to make their lives better or blaming the government for making their lives harder. Our hope definitely shouldn't be in the government, it is really false hope.

  3. PSALM 34
    v. 4 " I sought the Lord and He answered me. He delivered me from all my fears" That is such a bold statement. Can I say that? Where do I take my fears? If I seek the Lord with them, He alone has the power to deliver me from them. When you take fears to Him, the answer is always going to be trust. I am learning that slowly and finally! Don't let fear take you down the spiral. Stop it in its tracks and trust instead. Words of trust - v. 1 "His praise will always be on my lips" That will affirm my trust.

    v. 7 I pray this all of the time with Jerry on nights. It is my protection "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and He delivers them"

    v. 8 "Taste and see that Lord is good" and v. 10 "Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing." I love those verses so much. I don't why we hesitate in our relationship with the Lord. Why we don't jump in 100% and just love Him and trust Him. He is so good and never leaves us lacking.

v.11-14 It is so important what comes out of your mouth. It has so much to do with your faith. It is all connected.

    v. 18 I have felt this verse many times "The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Knowing God hears and understands and draws you close like a little child, just brings healing to me.

I have dates posted beside so many of these verses in this chapter. It has been so alive in my life for so many years. It gives comfort. The see over and over the Lord delivers is so very true. He hears, He delivers. Why would you run from a God that loves you so much, who protects you, delivers you, comforts you.

On a funny note, I have 9-2-02 beside v. 20 "he protects all his bones." I fell down the cement stairs at the other house and should've broken a bone, but didn't! I claimed that verse. LOL

    1. I like reading old bibles and seeing what was important to me then. And how differ things stand out every time. And yay on no broken bones!!

I loved the last verse. If we take refuge in him, none of us will be condemned. It took along time for me to totally understand that, so anytime I see it, it makes me happy :)

  4. PSALM 35

It's sad to be deceived by people. People you were loyal to and thought were your friends and then they attack and betray you. Betrayal is one of the most hurtful things you can go through. You feel really dumb like you were a fool. Then they rally people against you and you can't defend yourself to them all so you have to rely on God to avenge and defend. They stir everyone up and lie to them. You are innocent. You know and God knows. Your only hope is vindication from God. So instead of joining in the battle, you go to the Lord for hope and help. Let your words be of praise and not evil.

    1. So very true!! And how hard it is to not retaliate. If I'm in that position, I hope I can depend on God and only have good things to say. And in the flip side, I want to be like the people in verse 27 and delight in others righteousness and shout "Great is the Lord"!!

  5. PSALM 36

Did you notice that v. 5-6 are the Third Day Song? Love that song. I never noticed that "you preserve man and "beast". I guess he created them, provides for them, loves them, and they are in his care.

7-9 There is refuse-safety; abundance-plenty; drink from rivers of delight-makes your soul happy; the fountain of life - energy, zest, light-hope; all because of God's love that will never fail or let us down.

Sometimes you have to change your perspective to receive what God has. Sometimes you have to consciously (on purpose) lay down worry, critical spirit, grumbling, fear, discontentment, disappointment, discouragement, etc. so you can have empty hands to be able to pick up the life God wants you to have. God wants you to have an abundant full life. He died for it.

    1. This chapter is very colorful and descriptive. I liked it. I like the way David describes the wicked man then tells how great God is so we know there is hope for us all. And then prays that he won't be like that wicked man. And to let God's steadfast love continue to those who know him. I love that!!

  6. Psalm 37

I love verse 4...delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Growing up I always thought that meant I get what I want. Stuff like a new car, a big house, or lots of money. While God may give you those things, He gives you the desires he wants you to have. Like being Meek, being blessed, and being righteous. The more important things in life like inheriting the world since it was mentioned 4 times in this chapter.

    1. I know Aimee. That is a favorite verse to quote. I always thought the same thing. And then I realized that if you delight in the Lord, he changes your desires.

  7. PSALM 38

Sin not only affects you because of the inward guilt and heaviness but sin always affects those around you. Plus you know you can confess and be forgiven but there will still be consequences and God's discipline.

Sin brings you to a place of being miserable, lonely and despondent. "I'm about to tall" v. 17 - he feels overwhelmed, like there's no way out and life will never be the same.

I have felt that way. Like I totally deserved God's discipline and consequences of my actions. But I felt like there was no hope and life would never be the same. I didn't give up, I just surrendered. God has redeemed my life to a better place. There is always hope.

    1. I think David was a great example here. He was sad over his sins and his many enemies. We should be mute and deaf to them.

  8. PSALM 39

I had to look this up in the commentary and it was just like it read. David tried to keep quiet around wicked people and it made him feel worse. He didn't think he could handle any more of God's discipline so he asked God to tell him how long his life was. I guess that was either so he knew his suffering would be offer or that he better enjoy the life he had left. I think the latter. He needed favor from God.

You know the verse "God won't give us more than we can handle"? He does. He does so that we will turn to him for our strength and hope. He stretches our endurance that way and our faith. I have been there many times. I thought I can't do this anymore. And then God gives me strength to keep going. Or sometimes the pain of something is more than you think you can endure. You can't hardly cope with it. And then God gives you comfort and hope. But only when you turn to him in your weakness, then he makes you strong.

    1. Your commentary helped me understand more. I love verse 9. I am mute and deaf for it is you who has done it. I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut sometimes and worrying too much about what others think. So this verse helps me see that God is the one who helps, I can't do it on my own.
